Doing the Base

Brushes used:

- Foundation Brush
- Rounded Brushes
- Duo Fibre Brush
- Kabuki Brush
- Puff

Products used:
- Kryolan Foundation Palette
- Kryolan Concealer Palette
- Illamasqua Pressed Powder

Technique

- Start by mixing the colours from the foundation palette together using a spatula to take product and mix it on the back of the hand.
- Test a tiny bit of the mixed product on the neck to make sure that the colour corresponds to the skin tone. If it's not correct, then continue to mix until the colour matches. Once it's perfect, remove the test strips and begin.
- For working on camera, cover all the skin that is showing including; hands, ears, neck, arms and feet.
- Using the Foundation Brush, work the product into the brush. Start on the nose and using upward strokes put the foundation onto the face, go up to the hairline and down to the clothing line on the neck. Go around the ear, taking care around piercings (clean any jewellery afterwards with a cotton bud).
- As the foundation in the kit is grease-based, the product will streak so use the Kabuki Brush to polish and buff the product in, in circular motions.

- When concealing, go no lighter than 1 or 2 shades
- Use a Rounded Brush, apply under the eyes and around the nose.
- If concealing blemishes DO NOT use a highlighting concealer.
- Blend the product again with the Foundation Brush and the Kabuki Brush, using the same technique as before.

- To powder, tap some onto the back of the hand/onto the lid. Using a rolling motion apply the powder with the puff, all over the face.
- To clean off any excess powder, gently go over the face with the Duo-Fibre Brush

Different colours cancel out different things

- Red : used for darker tones (e.g dark circles)
- Yellow : used to lift the skin
- Purple : used to make the skin look more alive
- Green : takes away any redness (good for use on blemishes)

HEALTH AND SAFETY:
- Always make sure that you double check before application whether any piercings are infected and the area can't have any makeup applied.

The finished base

What I found out...

My partner and I didn't have enough time to complete both of our faces, so my partner did the full application, whilst I was only able to colour match her and apply the foundation.
It was a pleasant experience having the foundation applied, my partner's pressure with the brush was good and she communicated well with me, telling me what she needed me to do. I think her colour match was very good and it looked very natural once she was finished. However as my cheeks were a bit red after the prep of the skin (due to the very sensitive nature of my skin), the foundation didn't cover it well so I think she needed to add more foundation to my cheeks, to even out the skin tone.
I did have a lot of difficulty colour matching the foundation as I have never done it before, so it took some time for me to get the correct shade. Initially the shade I chose was too yellow toned for her face, so I mixed it with a pinker foundation until it resembled her skin tone. I quite liked the application process, especially how the skin looked once it was buffed in with the kabuki brush.
