Setting up your workstation
- 2 squares of couch roll, folded up and placed on the surface to protect brushes and product from dirt and bacteria.
- Lay brushes and products on the top.
- For cleansing, toning and moisturising, set out the products with lots of cotton pads and buds and tissues in preparation.
- Turn on the lights around the mirror so that you get the best idea as to how your makeup will look on camera.

Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturising
Once the workstation is set up, go and wash your hands, telling your model that you are doing so.This will create peace of mind for you both that you are beginning the procedure with clean hands.
- Begin with Cleanser, put product on two cotton pads (or tissue for a man so that the fibres from the cotton pads don't get stuck to the hair follicles on their faces), using them in each hand on either side of the model's face.
- Stand behind the model, looking in the mirror, using upward motions begin to cleanse the face. Do not forget to cleanse the neck!
- Always communicate with the model, asking them to move their head to where you need it to go.
-When taking off drawn on eyebrows, go against the growth of the hair so that the product on the skin is taken off as well as that on the hair follicle.
- Use cotton buds to go around the eye area, asking the model to look up so that you get all excess product off from the root of the lashes. You can ask the model to take off the makeup on the eye area so that they can use the correct pressure for them.
- When cleansing around piercings, be very aware of them and cleanse around them using a cotton bud using a delicate amount of pressure.
- For Toner, apply to a cotton pad and use the upward motion again over the whole face.
- Once you have finished with Toner, take a small amount of Moisturiser (the size of a pea) in your hands.
-Rub your hands together and go over the face again in the upward motion.
How I found Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising
I have never done a cleansing routine like this before, especially on another person so I was very apprehensive at the beginning. Doing the whole procedure in a mirror was a very strange experience for me, as I am used to facing the model when applying makeup, however as we progressed in the procedure I began to get used to using the mirror more. As I was very apprehensive, I was very light in the pressure I was applying because I didn't want to be too heavy and cause discomfort to my model, however I think I was too light and didn't do as deep a cleanse as my partner. Through further practise I think my confidence will grow and I will get used to applying a heavier pressure as suits my model.
